Just wanted to see if anyone else thought that the old..."they won't lose today, they are great at home" theory is really no longer prevelant in CBB. Seems like anyone can win anywhere anymore. I remember looking at the Big12 about 3 years ago and the top 7 teams in that league all held court vs. one another to the tune of about 90% of the time. Seems like you are much better off grabbing points in a game like VTECH/UVA than you are giving a few thinking they will win since they are at home. KY isn't very good, but they are 0-2 in league...both at home...with one loss to a team ALA that is 2-0 on the road, and never used to be able to win ANY games outside of Tuscaloosa. KSU beats KU at Lawrence yesterday, MSU beats OSU today at OSU....list seems to go on and on......I really put almost no creedence into where a game is about 95% of the time. Maybe i'm wrong, but it just seems that the ole home court advantage isn't really there anymore.

Let's hope Maryland has a good Home Court advantage today

I think sometimes their is an advantage- take a look at the Villanova-Texas game over the w/end- think that was a good example.

However you bring a lot of good points up.

there are some places where it still is very much in play: in the ACC no one wantsw to play at Clemson, or in Cameron Indoor(of course). Florida state is no one's idea of a nice road destination either.
Kansas and Kentucky are in really strange times: Kansas is talented but very very young, and Kentucky simply has less talent than I can recall them having in the past ten years. They are a poor team.

anyway, will be intersting to see how the rest of teh season goes.

DJ, Horatio- didn't mean it NEVER exists...but it is far less prevalent than in the past. Just look at how many road teams win. FSU wins at UVA then UVA wins at VTECH. My point was that you used to be able to take the top 1/2 of most good conferences and the home teams almost always held court. Pac10 is a GREAT example this year. You would have never seen UCLA win at UAZ and UW win at UCLA, OREST beat a good CAL team at CAL, then come home to lose to ASU. List goes on and on.....teams just don't defend home court like they used to on the whole

this year is interesting.I think there is a more even spread of talent than in years past. Makes for more treacherous times for both coaches and bettors! :gulp:

unfortunately DJ- i have played a very profitable system the past few years involving ML's on home teams. For instance, i would take OSU over MSU and play them at -2 -170 vs. -5. I would play ML's up to about -220, because the home teams almost always held court. This season, i have really almost had to scrap it. I am only using it in the big10, MVC and MAC this year. I just can't believe how bad teams have been at home. Look at the ACC this week......tons of road wins and they used to say it was amazing to steal a road win in the ACC........Pac10 the same way.....trips to Stanford/CAL, UAZ/ASU, USC/UCLA were always dangerous...STAN and UAZ had like 80 game home win streaks going a couple of years back......not sure if it is due to the lack of senior teams due to the NBA flight, so you get more inconsistent play due to all the underclassmen or what, but trust me, i have tracked this for a while and homecourt just isn't what it used to be

OO I see- yeah that sucks if it hurts your system- its interesting to say the least that more road teams are winning.. maybe now since we are into Conf. play it will get better?

DJ- that is all i play are conference games with this. Go back and look at each night in the major conferences and it is really amazing.....i just need to be more selective with my system, that is all......

I am almost inclined to agree with you here Flyers....at least so far this season.

I too try to play on home teams, and is was actually working pretty well up until this last week. Maybe I was just picking the right teams up until now?

Anyway, I lost with Ohio St yesterday, VA Tech on Tuesday, & UCLA on Saturday, which were probably the most notable three where I thought home court would play a huge role and seems it didn't....although there were more.

Only positive thing that MAY come out of more road teams winning/covering lately is that it may result in lower lines on home faves in the future.

Hopefully the shit straightens out soon though, cause I'm getting my ass kicked right now playing on those small home faves :bang:

I think parody has alot to do with it these days and especially this year. If you think about it, how many really good, consistent basketball teams are out there this season? 1, and it's unfortunately the Pukies. The next best (most talented) team in all of college hoops is UConn, and they haven't jelled yet for various reasons. Next, on the list would have to be Florida and Pittsburgh (only cause they are undefeated) and I don't think anyone considers them world beaters, or even close to it, and come NCAA team I would guess those are two teams who will get no respect (though I personally love Taurean Green and Florida).

This year, more than ever, we could see a huge crop of "Mid Majors" in the tourney (the MVC has 5 very good, tourney worhty teams that, while all obviously won't get in, all could make a case by season's end. Plus add the Atlantic 10's 3-4, the Mid American's 2-3, and the Colonial's 3, and it seems clear that the talent has spread out).

The big conferences are simply down IMO, except for the expanded Big East, and while the ACC is solid and led by Puke, it's overall strength is down. The Big 10's parody is glaringly obvious thus far. The Big 12 is a crap shoot after Texas, it would seem. The Pac 10 doesn't have a dominant team with Arizona struggling and UW losing at home to longtime doormat Wazzou. The SEC flat out stinks in comparison to past years, IMO. And lastly, Conference USA is a joke now because of defections (back to Mid Major statys really).

I would agree in most cases that it seems taking the points on the road over 3.5-4+ seems like a better proposition than in recent years when teams are closely matched. That was definitely not always the case the past few seasons.
