What a joke these questions are Alito is being reemed with....How could you not laugh when Ted Kennedy was ranting on yesterday:laugh:

The Dems are basically going to use the abortion debate basically as a sounding board for themselves for 06... Unless there is an actual case to be made for not accepting a nominee (Bork, Thomas)...... it is more of an excercise for the parties to get big time plublicity and proliferate their party platforms.:flush:

The suggestion has been made apparently by Sen. Biden that these hearings are no longer needed. The only reason I would disagree is that I think it's necessary for people to see just how rediculous one side CAN be about this process.

I'm not sure why this is so difficult for people. As a hard-core conservative, if I were a Senator, I would have supported the nominations by President Clinton of both Justice Breyer and Ginsburg. As horrendous as their line of thinking is on Constitutional issues, the Framers intended that the elected President nominate and that the Senate give their approval. Senate confirmation was not meant to create, necessarily, an adversarial role between the executive and legislative branches, but a protection against the extreme.

The approach the Democrats have taken with the two nominees has been to ask questions of the POLITICAL person, not the federal judge. Theoretically, a judge should be able to hold one personal (political) position, but in understanding their role as a judge make a finding on points of law completely to the contrary of their own views. That's what Chief Justice Roberts (wow do I love typing that) and Judge Alito have tried to point out, and in fact it's what they have done as judges, more in the case of Alito over 15 years as a federal judge.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the "new" Supreme Court DOES NOT overturn Roe v. Wade. The next five years of US history should be VERY interesting.

It's unreal!! I see people stretching unbelievably to oppose this guy. Just flat out making stuff up ... Sad.

The dems just seem desparate because they are. They have no way to stop this confirmation and they know it.
