Going in Feb to Italy via 3 days in Amsterdam (insert humping smiley here). I'm stoked to say the least. Any suggestions (see/eat/etc) while I'm there?

SS, my wife has been, but it was about 7 years ago, she had to go to finish up her Masters work. Came home pregnant, LOL. (Thank goodness my daughter looks like me or I'd be divorced) I'll check with her to see if she remembers any unique places. I do recall her talking a good bit about WW2 history over there and some of the caves they went to were the people hid from the Germans. Said the food was not all that great, but that could have been from the morning sickness. I'll talk to her tonight and get back with ya.

definitely hit a hashish bar, i understand the bar has bongs sitting at every seat and they bring you a menu. all hear say. if you confirm this let me know LOL!!

Haven't been to either but all over Europe, got to go to a number of countries when I was stationed in Germany in the early 90's. You will love it. Europe is beautiful and romantic, and the feel is just totally different. They've been around for thousands of years where as we have been around for only a few hundred.

1. Don't try to order a salad, they don't do salads. They will make you one...but they don't do salads.

2. Don't waste the experience getting drunk. If you're going to drink do it slowly in moderation.

3. Don't try to order a salad.

4. Do the hash in Amsterdam if you want. It's true that it's just totally open there. Disastrous for them...but whatever.

5. The women don't shave their underarms or legs so don't gawk.

6. You may walk into a bathroom and not be just exactly sure what to do next.

People come to Amsterdam from all over the world for the sole purpose of pureeing their brains into a soft, drug-addled paste. Hash, mushrooms and other soft drugs are easier to get than a decent ice cream cone. While drugs are not in fact 100% legal, they are tolerated more than a regular cigarette is in the U.S. these days. While owning and using soft drugs is worry-free, don't plan on collecting a duffel bag worth of psychotropic substances and opening your own Kool-Aid-style booth on the corner. If you get busted with more than five grams of gear - the amount that authorities have deemed an acceptable sized stash for personal use - you will indeed get tossed into prison. There's no need to worry about hoarding a personal inventory though. "Coffee Shops" - code name for hash bars, which are the only acceptable soft drug merchants in Amsterdam - are more numerous than Starbucks in Manhattan. There are several in each neighborhood and in places like the over-saturated city center, a modest, second-hand buzz can very nearly be attained by simply loitering on one of the busier streets.

Thanks for the heads-up guys; still gathering info. I have heard good and some bad so far, mostly good.

Speaking of "goods" I probably will partake but all in moderation. Wouldn't be too cool to wake up in an Amsterdam jail.

If anything, I'm ordering a salad right when I get there! :ohman:
