Week 15 (Saturday Recommended plays)
N.Y. Giants -3 – Given the Giants performances at home this season, 3 points doesn’t seem like much chalk to lay. The Giants have been great at home this year with a 7-1 record (their only loss was that fluke to Minnesota). In addition, the Giants average almost 30 ppg and their defense is especially tough giving up an average of 16 ppg at home. On the flip side, the Chiefs are 3-4 on the road this season, averaging 23 ppg while their defense is giving up 22 ppg. Statistically, K.C. has the slight edge on offense, but the defensive side of the ball is a different story. The Giants rank 20th overall defensively where the Chiefs rank 27th overall. Not a huge difference, but the Giants have been much tougher defensively the second half of the season, particularly at home. As for the Chiefs, their defense has been getting torched giving up 27 and 31 points the past two games. Things won’t be any easier for them going up against a very balanced N.Y. offense. I am slightly concerned over the absence of Antonio Pierce (the Giants leading tackler), but I believe they have enough talent on the rest of the defense to slow K.C. down. This is also K.C.’s second road game in a row, and they could still be feeling the after effects of last weeks devastating loss to the Cowboys. Both teams are in the playoff hunt, so you can count on the Giants (and the home crowd) to be fired up for this game. In the end, the Giants stingy defense with a little help from the home crowd will allow them to pull away.
Buffalo +9 – I will personally buy a point here to get Buffalo +10 (at -130). I don’t think I will need it, but their’s nothing wrong with a little added insurance. Denver has been flat out dominant at home this year with a 7-0 record, but they are just 3-3 on the road. Denver’s road performances reflect on their statistics as they average 3 ppg less offensively while their defense surrenders 5 ppg more on the road compared to home games. Last week Buffalo was blown by the Patriots at home. That was because J.P. Losman started at QB, Willis McGahee left the game with an injury, and Rod Smith was suspended. This week Kelly Holcomb (who is better than Losman) gets the start and he will have the services of McGahee and Smith. Buffalo is a proud organization, and I can’t picture them losing two games in a row at home by double digits. Furthermore, Buffalo is getting all these points in what appears will be some very nasty weather conditions….. See below
“Look for heavy lake-effect snow across parts of Upstate New York, especially around the Buffalo and Watertown areas. A cold persistent southwest wind will produce one heavy lake-effect snow band from Lake Erie into the Buffalo area and a second from Lake Ontario into the Watertown area. The core of each band could pile up between 1 and 2 feet of snow by Saturday night”.
“Mostly cloudy with snow flurries and snow showers possible. High near 30F. Winds WSW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of snow 60%. 2 to 4 inches of snow expected. Heavier amounts in persistent snowbands”.
