This may be a stupid question but can someone explain this in lay terms?

Basically it is when you find the same game with a different line at different books...........
If the gap is big enough in the lines you can place a large wager on both sides of the same game and all you risk is losing the vig..............
If the game lands on the middle you win both sides of the bet. Arbitrage is almost a waste of time nowadays........
With computers and all the books working off the same lines combined with the chance that the game lands.......... It's almost a waste of time.
You can however find some nice middles on half time lines while in games..........effectively giving you a middle to land on although it's not the same thing as arbitrage it's pretty close.
