Trying to get back over the hump in pucks, and I'm laying some big units down tonight. Hoping for some birthday luck with my first Game of the Year pick...

ISLANDERS -140 at Blues GOTY * 3 Units
Love this play. Islanders should not have a problem with the awful Blues tonight. NYI are an under-rated team who are going for their sixth win in seven road games, and coming off a big win IN Detroit Sunday! Islanders have good balanced scoring and are solid in net.

BUT this play is a STL fade. The Blues snapped another losing streak last game by beating the lowly Bluejackets...an injury riddled team who are maybe the only team worse in the league. STL has some bad injury problems. Their top 2 defenceman are out as Christian Backman joins Eric Brewer on the IR. The Blues' defense was brutal to begin with, and now it is in shambles. Three of the six blue-line players who will be in uniform for the game tonight have played 45 games or fewer in the NHL.

Against Columbus, Patrick Lalime was back in net after a 6 game benching (he has been brutal all year) and got the win (big deal). But that is not much of a test, and with the firepower of NY, and the depleted STL defence, whoever starts in goal for STL should see alot of rubber tonight.

FLAMES +105 at Flyers
Philly is another team with injury problems with their best forward, defenceman and goalie all out (Forsberg, Pitkanen & Esche). After a slow start, Calgary is a hot team with Kiprusoff rock solid in net. Since Nov. 1, Kiprusoff is 10-2-1 with a 1.80 goals-against average and .924 save percentage with two shutouts. He's also 2-0 with a 1.94 GAA and .934 save percentage in his career against the Flyers. I'll take the road dog in this spot.

HURRICANES +110 at Ducks
Canes on a little bit of a slide, but I'll play them as a dog with goalie Gerber returning to his old building in California. Not my strongest capped play, but going with my gut.

SHARKS PL +152 vs Thrashers
Sharks look to be a different team with big Joe in the lineup. His biggest influence has been getting the other teams top checking line away from Pat Marleau. Pat's got 6 points in 2 games since Joe came on board, and really gives them a dominant 1-2 punch up the middle. Atlanta cannot keep the puck out of the net, they lost bad last night in Phoenix, and travel north to face a rested SJ team. Could get ugly. Second strongest play of the night, so I'll play the Puck Line.

I love the islanders as well, they will be on fire, and st. louis will try to attack, leaving their weak goalie to fend for himself.

I'm thinking about taking the -1.5, but I'm not sure yet.

Thanks guys!
Yeah....3-1, +3.75 units. Only loss in a shootout. But I'll take it!
I really should have hammered the Islanders, It was such a strong play, I even forgot to mention the Blues top scorer, Cajanek was also out.

JB....love the signings!! We targeted what we thought were the best starter, and the best closer and got them both! Some say we overpayed...but in the AL East, you have to do that to compete! We now have the best bullpen in the AL, and the best top 3 rotation with Halladay/Burnnett/Chacin.

We also not done. We can now trade Batista and an extra outfielder for a middle of the order bat, and it also sounds like we might pick up Piazza today for DH and back-up catcher duties.

I sure don't think you overpaid. I guess MAYBE on BJ Ryan...but the whole entire market has overpaid for releivers this season. If anybody deserved the length of contract he got it is BJ Ryan.

I think AJ Burnett at 5 for 55 is a GREAT deal. I mean 11 mill a year fo Burnett when a guy like Paul Byrd gets 7 mill for Cleveland? Loaiza gets 3 for 21 (7 mill a year) from Oakland? I sure don't think 11 mill for a guy in his prime like Burnett is overpaying.

I love both moves. Couple of sticks to add to the lineup and you all will be in real good shape!

Yeah....the thing is, both these guys are only 29. I like it better than signing older guys like Hoffman, Wagner, and Brown. And that Loaiza signing was nuts.

1 or 2 smart trades of our pitching and infield surplus for bats, and we're right there with the big 2.

I hear the Royals are dangling Jeremy Affeldt OR Mike MacDougle in a deal for Orlando Hudson.

However...appearently these two are being offered to just about every team in the league. To the Mets for Benson, Rangers for Mench, and to Atlanta for something.

Can't wait for it to all shake out. This is the fun time. Even the Royals are IN it for the time being....well not really...but you know what I mean!

Yeah.....I wish we wouldn't trade Hudson. Best defernsive infielder since Alomar. Pitchers love him. But I guess with him winning his first Gold Glove, he's got value.

We wouldn't make that trade though....we're trying to get ride of extra pitching, not add any.
