can someone please explain the NHL lines in detail?

Whats does the +144 on one side mean, VS the -154 for the other team????

Like all sports, there is favorite and an underdog. Favorite Money Line plays at -154 and the underdog is +144. Vegas says it will cost you to play the favorite cause that "should" be the winner. Thats why they call it chalk cause it's hard to swallow. Contrary, the dog pays out more but is less likely to win.
By the way, Dogs win often in the NHL.

but more specifically can you give me an example?

say a 100 Bet, what would I win, and what would I lose?

If you bet the dog, you lay 100 to win 144. If you bet the favorite, you lay 154 to win 100. Its that simple
