Robby Gordon's Helmet to Assist Hurricane Katrina Victims

eBay auction established to further assist the Harrah's Employee Relief Fund

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (September 20, 2005) -- Making some good from a tough situation, Robby Gordon on Tuesday pledged to further assist the Harrah's Employee Relief Fund, which was established following Hurricane Katrina's devastation of Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana, by auctioning off his race helmet used in Sunday's event at New Hampshire International Speedway.

Gordon and his helmet gained national attention when it was thrown at the car of Michael Waltrip in a sign of obvious frustration after Waltrip wrecked the No. 7 car driven by Gordon under caution.

"What happened Sunday is unfortunate, and I'm sorry for losing my temper following the race, but after a day or two of looking back at the race it's easy to realize that it's just not that big of a deal compared with what the people of the Gulf Coast are still going through.

"People started asking me almost immediately after the race if they could have my helmet, and rather than just giving it away we'll use it to raise more money for the Harrah's Employee Relief Fund. Obviously I'm still angry about getting wrecked intentionally, but at the end of the day I still have a house to go home to which is a lot more than a lot of people can say. I hope people will dig deep and think of the big picture when they're bidding on the helmet."

Following Hurricane Katrina, Gordon made an initial contribution of $20,000 to the Fund, and will raise additional monies through a $7 a lap pledge for the remainder of the season, and will also contribute 10 percent from the sale of Harrah's racing merchandise and collectibles at the team's web site -- robbygordon.com -- and at its track-side souvenir trailer.

The helmet will be auctioned off on eBay with bids now being accepted. The auction will last for one week, and the helmet going to the highest bidder on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. (EDT). A link to the auction is available by visiting www.robbygordon.com.

LMAO, look at the questions coming in on this helmet:

Q: If I am the winning bidder, can you have Mr. Gordon throw it at my car?

A: If thats what makes you happy.

Q: Does Redbull really give you ''wings''?

A: Yes!

Q: Does it stink?

A: It has an authentic 'just raced 190 laps at Loudon in my Jim Beam Chevy' scent

Q: Left in the dust at $60,100!!! Do you know how many Whoppers I have to sell to net this much BC? Have Greg throw in 18 with the Shark and we will get this to 6 figures-Gary

A: Don't give up now G-money.

Q: This helmet is priced a little too high for me. Will there be one thrown next week that may be a little more affordable like Kyle Petty?

A: We'll throw a helmet every week if this keeps up:)

I wonder what happened to the listing???? I looked this afternoon and the bidding was up over 9 million dollars.

The listing has apperently been pulled.

wonder if it was some kind of joke????

This explains it......

Given an overwhelming and unexpected response, the Robby Gordon eBay auction featuring the helmet he wore in Sunday's race at New Hampshire International Speedway has been temporarily suspended in an effort to assess the validity of the bids that have been received. It is our hope that the auction will resume in a relatively short period of time. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in our efforts to raise money for the Harrah's Employee Relief Fund

Its back up for bidding……

I heard Robby Gordon on TV last night. He said that he and Michael have spoken. Michael did apologized for wrecking Robby. Robby apologized for the way he responded both on and off the track. In the words of Robby, Michael went above and beyond and even offered Robby a Chevrolet Cup Car from MWR to replace Robby’s car that was wrecked.

Both Robby Gordon and Michael Waltrip will sign this helmet for the winning bidder.
