boiler--

as a big 10 bettor (iowa fan) i certainly am baffled as to why purdue is not somewhere in there. no osu or mich and they play iowa at home (traditionally giving iowa fits home or away). good luck to your team! i was at the '03 thrashing you gave us in west lafayette. let's win some serious cash this year.

I like to talk a little friendly trash early in the season. Most seasons I am eating crow, but it is fun. I respect all the teams in the Big 10 with the possible exception of IU....lol.

Gl to all this year...wagering and on the field.

I agree. 2nd year in a row i will go to State College to watch the Boilers.... I think the conference will be strong in the non conf games as well.

and I really have the Boilers on my radar....gonna cap them hard every week this year.....their D was stout last year although young and have all 11 returning this year.....i get all goose bumpy when a good defense returns 9-11 starters the following year.....i look at their schedule and their two toughest games are at home against the hawkeyes(no revenge factor there right) and at Minny....they win those and they could end up friggin...dare i say....undefeated....gl this year

I think they have almost as good a shot as Purdue.....but they have to go to Ann Arbor and dont be suprised if Betts and Miami, OH give them a run for their money opening day....Betts aintno Big Ben but he was a very capable replacement....have a great year my O Canada friend....

Bucks have a very legit shot.....but don't count out Iowa....awesome defense and Tate back at QB....he performed very well under pressure last year because of 3 running back injuries forced the Hawks to throw more than Ference would have like but he was successful doing so....now add the threat to run also.....lookout!!!

iowa is a solid team this year, think they are the team to look out for but no michigan or ohio state on the schedule makes the boilers look pretty solid to sneak up and take the big 10. they catch notre dame and iowa at home with the only real "tests" on the road being penn state and wisconsin, who will have a down year. the boilers could be a good sleeper team this year.

Pinnacle has Purdue, Mich and Ohio State all around +300 to win conf followed by Iowa at +500. It is going to be interesting....I hear a lot about the schedule but also hear lots about how good Iowa is going to be. Purdue tweaked the offense and if the running game is ok, they will be ok.

GL to all.

Oh, mama.....I'm so stoked football is starting. We in southwestern Ohio have a lot to be excited about...expectations are high for the Buckeyes and, dare I say it, the Bengals, as well.

A few thoughts about the Big 10....I definitely see Purdue making some noise this year. At the same time, while I know its not their fault, should an asterisk be put next to your name if you win the Big 10 and go undefeated without playing either OSU or UM? The Big 10 schedules need to be re-evaluated....nobody should get by without playing one or the other in a given year. Remember, Boiler, I prefaced that by saying, I realize its not the Boilers faults....I actually wonder how many Big 10 teams, say, in the last 20 years, have beaten both OSU and UM in the same year....bet its less than 5.

As for Iowa....they are going to be tough....but playing at the Horseshoe after last year's whippin'...its gonna be tough. Trust me, OSU has not forgotten what happened last year....whether OSU is undefeated, or hasn't won a game all year, they will be up for that Iowa game....this is where I see Iowa having a problem.

Second weekend of the year...Sept. 10th....the Longhorns visit the Horseshoe at primetime.....can't....friggin'....wait.....

People have this preconditioned thought that the Big 10 is still the Big 2 (or 3 if you include Penn State). Ohio State and Michigan have NOT dominated the Big 10 at all the last 10 yrs or so.

Heck...OSU needed a minor miracle to beat Purdue two years ago when they won the National Championship.

Purdue did beat Mich and Ohio State in 1984 and 2000. Not sure about your claim about the number of teams to beat them both.... It has been a LONG time since PU won at Ann Arbor. Even Fred Akers beat OSU in Columbus. (FF, that is funny....those PU teams stunk!)

A lot of people like Purdue based on their easy schedule. Talent wise, Ohio State is on top, but they go to Michigan. Michigan goes to Iowa. Iowa goes to Ohio State and Purdue, so we are back to square 1.

I look for a close Big 10 race, with no one escaping undefeated, which is probably for the best. I just hope that Michigan does not go to Pasadena again. I do not think any Big-10 team will go this year.

Well, just out of curiosity, I went back and looked at the last 10 years....and while OSU and UM haven't finished 1st and 2nd every year the 10 years respectively, they still have had quite a bit of success over the last 10 years....I'd say these are pretty dominating stats for such a powerful conference...who knows. Here's the site...hope its ok to post this...

http://www.collegefootballpoll.com/1995_archive_standings.html

1995 -- OSU 2nd UM 3rd
1996 -- OSU 1st UM 3rd
1997 -- UM 1st OSU 2nd
1998 -- OSU 1st (tie) UM 1st (tie)
1999 -- UM 2nd OSU 5th
2000 -- UM 1st (tie) OSU 2nd
2001 -- UM 2nd OSU 3rd
2002 -- OSU 1st (tie) UM 2nd
2003 -- UM 1st OSU 2nd (tie)
2004 -- UM 1st OSU 4th (tie)

It should be interesting to see what happens this year....lets all kick the man in the nuts....
