Baltimore Orioles first baseman Rafael Palmeiro will be suspended by Major League Baseball for violating the league's steroids policy, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney has confirmed with a league source.

Palmeiro, who recently got his 3,000th career hit, was noted for his emotional denial of steroid use before a Congressional panel in March, would be the latest player suspended under the league's new drug policy.
The image of Palmeiro taking a sweet swing from the left side of the plate has been replaced in some minds by the sight of him testifying before a House committee investigating steroids in baseball.
The hearing included testimony from Jose Canseco, who in his book cited Palmeiro and several other players as steroid users. Palmeiro emphatically denies using the performance-enhancing drug, but the Baltimore Orioles' first baseman can't deny how perceptions have changed.
"In my opinion, everyone that plays baseball in this era has been tainted," Palmeiro said during spring training. "Not just the people that he has named in the book, I think this whole era over the last 10, 15 or 20 years has been tainted. Regardless of whether you did or you didn't do anything, this whole era will have that label."

Palmeiro's statement before Congress read as follows: "Good morning, Mr. Chairman and members of the committee. My name is Rafael Palmeiro and I am a professional baseball player. I'll be brief in my remarks today. Let me start by telling you this: I have never used steroids. Period. I don't know how to say it any more clearly than that. Never. The reference to me in Mr. Canseco's book is absolutely false. I am against the use of steroids. I don't think athletes should use steroids and I don't think our kids should use them. That point of view is one, unfortunately, that is not shared by our former colleague, Jose Canseco. Mr. Canseco is an unashamed advocate for increased steroid use by all athletes."

Just shows how much these players do not care about the great game of baseball.
What a shame, I really thought this guy was a stand up class player, but not anymore - he has been added to my shitlist.
I agree, Jason Giambi was a man and stood up to what he did, and that I give credit and he is still a good ball player.
Fuck Palmeiro and his 3,000 hit shit.
This game is being destroyed....

BALTIMORE -- Orioles first baseman Rafael Palmeiro was suspended Monday for 10 days by Major League Baseball for violating its Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program and will begin serving the suspension immediately.
Palmeiro, expected to speak with reporters on a conference call at 1:30 p.m ET, is the highest-profile player to test positive under the current policy adopted earlier this year. He reached the 3,000-hit plateau on July 15, becoming the fourth player in history to accumulate 3,000 hits and 500 home runs. He has 569 career homers and has been considered a strong candidate for induction into baseball's Hall of Fame after he retires.
On March 17, Palmeiro vehemently denied in front of a House Subcommittee in Washington, D.C., that he used any performance-enhancing drugs.
Palmeiro apparently learned of the oncoming suspension and appealed it through the Players Association, but the Major League Baseball Arbitration Panel denied his appeal.
Palmeiro and the Orioles released a statement.
"At the outset, let me say that under the rules of the basic agreement and the order of the independent arbitrator, there is an order of confidentiality governing the specifics of this case," Palmeiro wrote. "I will attempt to state as much as I can and be as forthright as possible, but there will be issues I can't address based on orders imposed on me by the basic agreement and the arbitration process. I am here to make it very clear that I have never intentionally used steroids. Never. Ever. Period.
"When I found out that I failed a test under the new drug policy, I filed a grievance and challenged the suspension on the basis that I have never intentionally taken a banned substance. Ultimately, although I never intentionally put a banned substance into my body -- the independent arbitrator ruled that I had to be suspended under the terms of the program."
Palmeiro said he does not have an explanation for the positive test.
"I am sure you will ask how I tested positive for a banned substance. As I look back, I don't have a specific answer to give. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to explain to the arbitrator how the banned substance entered my body. The arbitrator did not find that I used a banned substance intentionally -- in fact, he said he found my testimony to be compelling -- but he ruled that I could not meet the heavy burden imposed on players who test positive under the new drug policy."
Palmeiro said he will accept his suspension.
"I want to apologize to MLB, the Baltimore Orioles organization, my teammates, and most of all, my fans. Given my role with the No Tolerance Committee and my relationships with Congress, I feel the need to communicate a serious message to my fellow players and to kids everywhere. All of us have to be responsible and exercise extreme care in what we put in our body. I hope that all MLB players and kids will learn from what has happened to me. I have never intentionally used a banned substance, but I unfortunately wasn't careful enough."
Orioles owner Peter Angelos offered his support to Palmeiro in a statement.
"I am truly saddened by today's events," Angelos said. "I have known Rafael Palmeiro for many years. He is a fine person, a great player and a true asset to his community. I know from personal experience that his accomplishments are due to hard work and his dedication to the game.
"I know that Rafael will accept the penalty under Baseball's important Drug Policy and that he will return to be a productive member of the Orioles."
Vice president Mike Flanagan also issued a statement, saying the club will miss Palmeiro.
"I am obviously disappointed to hear the news of this suspension," Flanagan said. "Raffy has been a friend of mine for many years. He is one of the most dedicated and hard-working players in baseball. I know he would not violate the rules intentionally. I look forward to his return. We will surely miss him and his contribution to the club."

Palmeiro definitely is a piece of shit.
I don't know that we need to praise Giambi for telling the truth to a federal grand jury though. Uh, he had to.
Although I guess when you compare Giambi to lying pieces of shit like Sosa, Palmeiro, Bonds and McGwire he does come off looking a little better.
Let's see....Giambi used illegal steroids, and didn't perjure himself to a federal grand jury. What a stand-up guy!!!

Gimme Gorman Thomas, Steve Balboni, or Kenny Phelps over these clowns anyday.

First of all the other guys in that Balco investigation where Giambi "came clean" were, for the most part Bonds and Sheffield. And they both semi-admitted it also. And we all know they are a bunch of assholes.
Second of all Giambi did not come clean. He simply told the truth to a federal grand jury. And he never anticipated that his testimony would ever be leaked. As it should not have been.
After Giambi's testimony (but before it was leaked to the press) Tim Kurkjian asked him if he had ever used steroids and Giambi said, "No."
Then come spring training 2005 (after the testimony was leaked)Giambi didn't admit anything to the fans. He simply gave that blanket apology.
Giambi is a jackass. Anyone who doesn't see that is kidding themselves. He just may not be as big a jackass as Bonds, Palmeiro, Sosa, and McGwire.

Good point. :yeah:
Overall though I just think we are mistakenly pumping Giambi up when what he did was:
1. Take illegal steroids to inflate his stats.
2. In fear of going to jail he told the truth to a grand jury.
3. He went back to lying about his use to the public.
But, Giambi aside, I will try to focus onm Palmiero.
Raffy definitely is a piece of shit and I would love it if this kept him out of the Hall. Unfortunately I doubt that will happen.

Guys- baseball is as corrupt an organization as anything out there. They basically threw palmeiro under the bus to make themselves look good in front of congress. It is a big name player that has now been caught. They sold their soles to the devil to bring baseball back, and now they are going to do whatever it takes to save themselves in front of congress. you know all these fckheads are jackasses for being on the juice, but from what i've seen I will give Giambi credit for one thing and thats his perceived image to the media and fans in general. It still irks the hell out of me to see Bonds act the way he does, thinking he is bigger than the game, and treating everyone like shit, acting like baseball needs him, not the other way around. What a fcking asswipe, hope his ass is kept out of the hall, but I doubt that as well.

I don't understand the big deal with roids anyway. They are not the worst thing you can take. Check out the side effects of asprin some time.............
What side effects may I notice from taking aspirin?
Serious side effects with aspirin include:
* black, tarry stools
* confusion
* difficulty breathing, wheezing
* dizziness, drowsiness
* ringing in the ears
* seizures (convulsions)
* skin rash
* stomach pain
* unusual bleeding or bruising, red or purple spots on the skin
* vomiting up blood, or what looks like coffee grounds
Call your doctor as soon as you can if you get any of these side effects.
Minor side effects with aspirin include:
* diarrhea
* nausea, vomiting
* reduced amount of urine passed
* stomach gas, heartburn
Now roids.............................
Water Retention:
This is most common from using steroids. It is a “puffiness” or swelling in the neck and facial areas. It is rather notable mainly if you know the person is on steroids. For example, I know someone that took steroids but I did not know it at the time. After I found out, if I looked his face I would wonder how I couldn’t notice he was on roids before. It can be mild swelling or very serious, obvious swelling.
Acne:
Everyone knows about acne, and is one of the side effects I worry about the most for me. It is also a very common side effect, it can give acne to someone who has never had acne, and it can make acne worse for others. It can also appear in new places for a person, such as, the back and neck. There have been several users that have not received acne on the other hand.
Gynecomastia:(Can be controlled)
It may not sound familiar but most people have heard about it. It is the formation of breasts, or abnormally large glands. The first signs are lumps under the nipples, then will gradually grow to fatty tissue and increase in size.
Aggression:(NEVER PROVEN)
Aggression, also know as “roid rages”. Surprisingly, several athletes feel this is a positive effect. They often find they lift more, and are more intense during workouts. On the negative side, users find themselves fighting with family, friends, and co-workers with an uptight behaviour.
Hypertension:(Guess you'll need some asprin)
High blood pressure is also a chance when taking steroids. Most athletes would not know if they had high blood pressure so it is suggested to get tests regularly. High blood pressure can lead to many more serious diseases.
Cardiovascular Disease:(levels drop after discontinued use)
Studies have shown that steroid use is a risk factor for heart disease. This is because steroids affect the cholesterol levels. Over a period of time the cholesterol builds up and clogs the arteries.
Palpitations:
Heart palpitations have been reported by a number of athletes on steroids. These may indicate an excited or elevated level of the central nervous system.
Impotence:(almost never happens)
Impotence occurs when a user goes on and off steroids. When steroids are first used sexual interest increases because of the heightened frequency and duration of the erections. But eventually the opposite happens and no erections can be produced.
Jaundice:(this is taking Way 2 much)
A serious liver disease which is found by an enlarged painful liver, yellowing of the eyes and skin, and flu like symptoms. This happens when athletes use high dosages of steroids.

Pete Rose gets banned for LIFE for betting ON baseball, and these jarheads just get banned a few games for cheating while participating IN the games.
Now I agree that Rose had to get something for what he did, but if that pushishment is a lifetime ban, then these other dicks should receive the same penalty.
Seems the punishments don't exactly fit the crimes here...
Actually to me the only real tragedy to me is if Pete doesn't get into the hall and these other ass clown roid freaks do.
IMO either NONE of these fuck ups go in, or they gotta let Rose in too....because when it comes down to what really counts, performance on the field, Rose is a slam dunk first balloter without question, and was a far better player than any of these roid fucks any day of the week.

Seattle Mariners pitcher Ryan Franklin has failed a drug test and has received a 10-day suspension under the terms of Major League Baseball's steroids policy.
Ryan Franklin
Franklin
The commissioner's office announced the suspension Tuesday afternoon. A representative from Franklin-Frye-McCann agency, which represents Franklin, said the pitcher will talk to the media after 2 p.m. ET in Detroit.
MLB officials could not be reached to comment, and the Mariners wouldn't confirm news of the suspension.
Franklin, 32, has a career record of 33-46 with a 4.19 ERA in six major-league seasons, all with Seattle. He is 6-11 with a 4.61 ERA this season.
A day after baseball announced that Baltimore first baseman Rafael Palmeiro had failed his test, Franklin became the eighth player to receive a suspension under MLB's more stringent drug policy, which took effect in March.
The other major leaguers who have received suspensions for using performance-enhancing drugs this season are Seattle's Jamal Strong, Cleveland's Rafael Betancourt, Minnesota's Juan Rincon, Colorado's Jorge Piedra, Texas' Agustin Montero, and Tampa Bay's Alex Sanchez, who is now playing for the San Francisco Giants.

Stif and others, ya'll are right on track about the whole "juice" and Raffy stuff... Jose isn't full of crap.
Having been part of the game for over 23 years, I could tell ya lots of crap about illegal drug use and so forth. Players aren't stupid and the team docs aren't stupid, and trainers just don't wrap up your boo-boo's and put you on your way. It goes back to many of the major sports, the NFL, college football, hockey as well, that steroids have been part of the game since the 70's.
Having played the game and I confess I never used the stuff, however I did witness many former players use the 'juice' and even worse stuff than that, one drug called "DMSO" which horse trainers use on horses to help them get their blood circulating among other things. Baseball pitchers and injured players used DMSO to help them heal quicker, which it didn't do that, it actually thinned out their blood, causing nose bleeds and loss in weight and eating habits, among other things, even liver cancer.
Raffy being caught won't be the only one coming out saying they aren't guilty and they don't know how the drug showed up in their tests. It's denial and no, it's not the river in Egypt!! Giambi all of the sudden is hitting homers again and the talk is how he might be using again or might be tested, etc.? Hmm... Pudge Rodriguez loses 25 lbs and all of the sudden his run and power production has gone down at the very beginning of the season, yet no one says anything about that, now do they? Yes they did and they still do! What about pitchers who take the steroid mist for asthma?
I saw a young man improve his fastball from 81 mph to 94-97 mph in a years time and much of it was from the added 'kick' that the steroid in the spray mist employed. Also, players who used steroids truthfully did have smaller testicles, poor sex lives with their partners enhancing high divorce and breakup rates, just as much as gamblers' lives, hehehe, and their demeanors and behavior were very much off-base, no pun intended. Many players have had to go through anger management and counseling, maybe Kenny Rogers is using the 'juice'?
Masking agents, and so forth, whatever the pro athlete can get away with, they'll learn from their trainers of the pro team they play for or from those that have beat the "system". Illegal aged drinking, use of pot, etc., are topics we hear about everyday, and how much role models can help deter our youth from using as they learn right from wrong, etc., or how about just using common sense? Is common sense something we were born with? I think so. Do we use it? Yes, however, not enough!
We have to remember as pro sport fans, that years ago before we ever heard of performance enhancing drugs came about, the ball parks at many stadiums had short porches or had the elements to help produce many home runs and we also had some very strong atheletes in those earlier times, the 40's, 50's, etc. Football fields were the same size except the end zones had the Uprights on the goal line instead of the back of the end zone, and football players were smaller and quicker back then as well. The average sized offensive linemen supposedly was 6'2 and weighed in the 245 category in the 50's and 60's, now it's 6'5 1/2 and 330 lbs for most offensive linemen. IS it because they are eating better and using the weights better? Yes and no.
As long as there is performance to measure an athlete's worth, we're going to see illegal drug use and crap in the media. What we have to do is stand pat and anyone caught using illegally, we have to stand behind why we banned them or why we suspended them for 10 days or so on and so forth.
My take is, if you cheat the system and you get caught, you should be banned for life. Gambling in the sport you play is illegal and in all major sport contracts. Any gambling of any sort in many contracts is grounds for termination in many companies (IBM, Miller Brewing, etc.) and most major college sports, just ask Rick Neuheisel! Professional athletes make wagers during travel, playing poker for money and so on and so forth. Is that illegal? If it's gambling, it should be illegal right?
Raffy should be made an example of and Mac, Jose, Sammy and any other athletes who had to appear in front of the Senate hearings on steroid use topics, need to come clean and put this all to rest. Will they though? I highly doubt it with the super-sized egos we have in sports today, the multi-million dollar wage industry, player unions, and the way the media finds out information, the whole topic of the 'juice' will never go away. There will be some other new p.e.d. coming out in our lifetime that will aid in players hitting balls further and pitchers throwing harder and so on and so forth.
If we were caught cheating in school, we got expelled or when we got home we got a lickin from our parents. Society needs to firm up and quit changing all these damn laws we have, and just allow people to live with the right to choose, and the laws to be governed to protect us and our rights, not deter our lives. Common sense should rule the higher courts, yet it don't. If it did, then OJ Simpson would have been in jail and given life, however that's another sore topic...
I'm outtttttttttt!!

Report: Palmeiro tested positive for stanozolol
August 3, 2005
NEW YORK (AP) -- Rafael Palmeiro's positive steroid test was for stanozolol, a powerful anabolic steroid that is not available in dietary supplements, according to a newspaper report.
The New York Times, citing a person in baseball with direct knowledge of the sport's drug-testing program, reported on its Web site Tuesday that Palmeiro tested positive for the drug known by the brand name Winstrol, most notably linked to the Olympic sprinter Ben Johnson of Canada.
The person who said that Palmeiro tested positive for stanozolol did not want to be identified because the testing policy prohibits anyone in baseball from disclosing information about test results without authorization, the Times said.
The Baltimore Orioles first baseman was suspended by Major League Baseball for 10 days on Monday after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug. The highest profiled player to be punished so far, Palmeiro testified before Congress in March that he ``never used steroids.''
The test was taken some weeks after Palmeiro testified before Congress in March, meaning he is probably not at risk for perjury, the Times reported, citing a committee staff member who spoke to the newspaper on condition of anonymity because official statements are supposed to come from members of Congress.
Palmeiro didn't deny turning in a positive test, but was adamant it was an accident.
Johnson was stripped of his 100-meter gold medal in 1988 after testing positive for stanozolol.
Palmeiro was the seventh player to fall under baseball's new, tougher steroids policy; Seattle Mariners right-hander Ryan Franklin became the eighth when he was also suspended 10 days for a violation Tuesday. Baseball does not release what type of drug a player has tested positive for, and so far none of the eight have spoken openly about details of their violations.

I totally agree. What Rose did was wrong. But no worse than these guys and you will not see them getting banned for life and excluded from the hall of fame. Why? Could be they make the league a lot of money right now. Also could be that the league is so worried about it totally tarnishing the game where fans could give a shit less about what records are broke because all these guys are on this shit. I mean look how much these fuckers make a year and how much it costs the average fan to go see a game. Because some steroid using a-hole is getting multi millions to play. To me it is total bullshit. I still love sports, but these fuckers that think they are bigger than the game and can do whatever the hell they want and just deny it are tarnishing the whole foundation of all the sports. That is just my opinion and how I feel about it. It really pisses me off big time.

so , do players should beware what they eat or drink?
can a black mind put not allowed products in meal or drinks?
or the players always eat alone , where nobody access what they eat?
dunno what to think

Looks like Congress is going to investigate whether Raffy committed perjury or not. It should be interesting to see what comes out of it if anything.
