LA Dodgers (41-35) at Pittsburgh (36-39)
When: Sunday, June 26th 2016
Where: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, PA
Time: 8:05 ET | TV: ESPN
The Pittsburgh Pirates will face a huge task when they host the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN. Pittsburgh has taken the first two in the four-game series that will extend into Monday afternoon. Tonight, the Pirates will try and solve Clayton Kershaw on Sunday. Andrew McCutchen broke out last night with two homeruns in the 6-1 victory over the Dodgers. McCutchen is 9-for-24 with a HR and four RBIs versus Kershaw. Jordy Mercer also went deep on Saturday to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. L.A.’s Yasiel Puig has a hit in all four games started since returning from the disabled list including three straight multi-hit games. SS Corey Seager is 17-for-38 with six runs scored during his nine-game hitting streak. Pittsburgh LF Starling Marte is 3-for-9 with two runs scored in the series.
Pitchers: Dodgers – Clayton Kershaw (11-1, 1.57 ERA) | Pirates – Chad Kuhl (NR)
Kershaw has been nothing short of amazing this year with a 9-0 record over his last 10 outings. Kershaw posted his fourth victory in as many starts on Monday as he allowed one run and six hits while striking out eight in a 4-1 win over Washington. The three-time Cy Young winner’s dominant performance, during which he did not walk a batter for the eighth time in 15 starts, lowered his minuscule ERA by just 0.01. Kershaw has split four career decisions versus Pittsburgh – including a three-run effort in seven innings to take the loss in his most recent encounter.
With struggling right-hander Juan Nicasio demoted to the bullpen, Chad Kuhl is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to make his major-league debut. Kuhl has posted a 6-2 record with a 2.58 ERA in 14 starts with the Indians and has struck out 59 batters over 76.2 innings. Kuhl has compiled a 33-16 record and 2.79 ERA in 81 starts over four seasons in the minors.
This is not the best game to bet considering the Dodgers will probably win and the runline is even a little to steep of a price. Pittsburgh has had some success against Kershaw and the Dodgers should be able to rattle the rookie pitcher for a few runs. I’ll take a small shot on the over in this one.
Pick: Over 6.5 -120
