The Chicago Cubs must find some offense from their big bats if they want a chance to get back in the National League Championship Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Chicago will get the next three games in Wrigley Field where they beat the Dodgers two out of three times in last year’s NLCS and two of three back in April. The Dodgers have yet to lose in the postseason and are two wins from reaching their first World Series since 1988. Los Angeles’ pitchers have dominated this series, allowing only three runs through two games as the bullpen has combined for eight scoreless innings and allowed one base runner and no hits. To get back into the series, the Cubs will have to get more from a lineup that is hitting only .117 in the series and stars Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo are a combined 1-for-14 with six strikeouts. Javier Baez is also slumping, going 0-for-19 with eight strikeouts. Since the LCS expanded to a best-of-seven format in 1985, only three of the 28 teams who lost the first two games have come back to win the series.

Pitchers: Dodgers – Yu Darvish (1-0, 1.80 ERA) | Cubs – Kyle Hendricks (1-0, 3.27)

Yu Darvish will get just his second start of the postseason and his first one went very well. The 31-year old won beat Arizona in the NLDS, allowing one run and two hits while striking out seven over five innings. Darvish went 4-3 with a 3.44 ERA in nine regular-season starts after the Dodgers acquired him from Texas, and has allowed only two earned runs over his last four starts going back to the regular season. Darvish faced the Cubs last season while with the Rangers and allowed two runs over 4.1 innings in a loss at Wrigley Field.

MORE MLB PLAYOFF PREDICTIONS

Kyle Hendricks has been the Cubs go-to guy the last two postseasons as he’s posted a 2-1 record and 2.60 ERA in nine postseason starts, but wasn’t at his best in Game 5 of the NLDS against Washington. He allowed four runs (two HRs) over four innings of work, but the Cubs pulled out the slugfest to clinch the series. Hendricks helped the Cubs clinch last year’s NLCS by throwing 7.1 scoreless innings against the Dodgers a year ago. He is 2-1 with a 3.15 ERA in three regular-season meetings against Los Angeles.

The Dodgers are rolling right now and I expect Darvish to keep that going. The Cubs are pressing right now and that’s bad news against a stacked Dodger lineup.
