Dodgers vs Giants Preview and Free Pick – May 19th, 2015 ]]> include($base_url . “/includes/header.htm”); ?>
The Dodgers and Giants renew their rivalry tonight in game 1 of a three game set in San Francisco. The Dodgers got real hot to start May winning 10 of 12 starting April 29th, but have since lost 3 of 5. They only scored 2 runs over the weekend in Colorado. Despite that, they are still in first place in the National League West and are 3rd in the majors in runs per game and 1st in OPS. Their pitching has also been dominant with a team ERA of 3.28 and 343 strikeouts.
Carlos Frias is making his 4th start tonight after starting the year in the bullpen. He has done pretty decent despite given a low pitch count. Look for him to go a little deeper tonight as his pitch counts the last three games have gone up from 70 to 84 to 97 in his last outing. Overall he is 3-0 with a 2.89 ERA.
The Giants just went 4-2 on their six game road trip including winning 3 of 4 in Cincinnati. Hunter Pence is back from injury and has provided a spark for the offense. He’s 8 for 16 with a homer and 5 runs scored in his first two games back. The Giants oddly enough are hitting .269 (3rd in majors), but are 26th in runs scored at 3.8 a game. They are one of the worst teams at hitting home runs as they have only 28 in 38 games.
Tim Hudson pitched brilliantly in his first start in San Diego, but since then has not had a start where he allowed less than 3 runs a game. May 7th he was hit hard at home surrendering 15 hits and 6 runs in 6 2/3 innings to the Marlins. His overall record is 1-3 with a 4.57 ERA and he has only struck out 23 batters in 45 innings. Not a very good Daily Fantasy pitcher today.
I think the Dodgers break out of their mini hitting slump tonight and pound on Tim Hudson.
Pick: Dodgers -117
