The Kansas Jayhawks look to extend one of the most lopsided rivalries in college basketball when they host the Colorado Buffaloes Wednesday night.
Kansas has beaten their Big 12 Conference border rivals six times in a row and, amazingly, 33 of the last 34 meetings. The only Colorado victory in that span came three years ago when the Buffs nipped the Jayhawks in Boulder by one point.
After a 3-4 start to the season, Kansas has since gone 17-3. The Jayhawks had a 10-game winning streak snapped Saturday at Texas. Well, maybe snapped isn't the right word. "Crushed" may be more apt. The Longhorns shot 27 of 49 from floor (10 of 20 from 3-point land) against Kansas' Division 1-leading field-goal defense (37 percent) and won the battle on the boards 36-19 in the 80-55 Texas win.
Colorado beat troubled Missouri 78-60 Saturday, just the Buffs' third win in their last seven games. Colorado is tied with Texas A&M for fourth place in the Big 12 at 8-6.
Kansas is second in the Big 12 at 11-3, a game behind Texas with two to go.
Colorado is 13-10 against the spread this season; 3-3 ats as an underdog, 5-5 ats on the road and 6-8 ats in conference play.
Kansas is a profitable 14-9 against the spread this season; 8-5 ats at home, 11-7 ats as chalk and 9-5 ats in the Big 12.
In the most recent encounter between the two teams, the Jayhawks beat the Buffaloes 75-63 in Boulder in January.
Kansas has been starting three freshmen and two sophomores in recent games. But tonight is Senior Night at Allen Fieldhouse, and the Jayhawks have three seniors; one wonders if they'll be on the floor together in the waning moments of tonight's game.
In the latest RPI ratings at NCAAsports.com, Kansas ranks 45th and Colorado 48th. But how many teams, besides Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma, will the Big 12 send to the Big Dance? The Buffs and Texas A&M (which hosts Texas) may provide an answer to that question tonight.
The under is a collective 29-17 in Colorado and Kansas games this season.
The Ultimatecapper Pick: - With such stellar numbers against Colorado, Kansas is getting a bit too much "spread respect" here. We'll take those ten points and ride out a decent value play here with Colorado at +10. Good luck!
