The Boston Celtics look to extend the league’s best winning streak to seven games when they begin a three-game road trip by visiting the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday night. Both teams have been winning in impressive fashion as they own the two best point differentials in the NBA thus far – Boston +9.5 – Oklahoma City +10.9. Solid defense has been the winning recipe for both teams, but Boston has been fantastic by holding each of it’s opponents to 94 points or fewer during their six-game run and are coming off a 113-86 rout of Sacramento on Wednesday. Oklahoma City held Chicago to a dismal 28.2% shooting in a 101-69 route before picking up a 110-91 victory at Milwaukee on Wednesday to cap a 2-1 road trip. Russell Westbrook averaged 41 points as the Thunder took both meetings with the Celtics last season, and have won 10 of the last 12 in the series.

Both rookie Jaylen Brown and veteran Kyrie Irving poured in 22 points in the win over the Kings, as Brown drained 7-of-8 shots and 5-of-6 3-pointers. Irving has scored at least 20 points in each of the six straight wins and he entered Thursday’s action ranked second in the league in steals (2.63 per game). Irving averaged 28.5 points and seven assists in two games against Oklahoma City last season. The Boston bench got into the action against Sacramento on Wednesday, with three players scoring in double-figures – Terry Rozier (12), Semi Ojeleye (11), and Daniel Thies (10), who also had a season-best 10 boards.

Oklahoma City ranks third in the NBA behind Boston and Utah in scoring defense at 95.7 points per game, which is more than 10 points fewer than last season. The additions of both Carmelo Anthony and Paul George, who were the main scoring options for their previous teams for years, have worked out well thus far. George led the way Wednesday with 20 points while making 4-of-8 3-pointers against Milwaukee. Anthony has just one turnover in 94 minutes over his last three games. Center Steven Adams pulled-down a team-high 11 rebounds against the Bucks to go along with his 14 points. The Thunder will hit the road after this game for three games in five nights beginning Sunday in Portland.

UCLA VS UTAH PREVIEW AND FREE PICK

Boston has rebounded better than expected after the devastating injury to Gordon Hayward on opening night. Their defense has been outstanding and should be able to slow down the Thunder. I think the Celtics have a good chance at winning this game, so I’ll take the points.
