The Milwaukee Brewers look to continue their successful road trip when they play the first of three in Wrigley Field against the World Champion Chicago Cubs on Monday night. The Brewers, who lost two of three at home to the Cubs a few weeks ago, have won five of their first six games on their current road trip which concludes with the three games here in Wrigley. The Cubs have lost four of their last five after being swept in a three-game set by visiting Pittsburgh over the weekend. It was Chicago’s first series loss since mid-September. Relievers allowed all six runs in Chicago’s 6-1 setback on Sunday, raising the team’s bullpen ERA to 4.19. Milwaukee has hit 17 home runs over its last eight games, including six in the past two games. Brewers slugger Eric Thames went deep in all four games of the team’s weekend series against Cincinnati – including a two-homer performance on Saturday. Milwaukee took three of four in Cincy and are just a game behind the Reds for first place in the NL Central. Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo is 9-for-22 on the team’s homestand and has reached base at least twice in all six games. Brewers star Ryan Braun is a career .342 hitter with 20 doubles and 12 home runs in 66 games at Wrigley Field. Chicago’s Kyle Schwarber has reached base in six of 12 plate appearances leading off a game this season.

Pitchers: Brewers – Chase Anderson (1-0, 0.69 ERA) | Cubs – John Lackey (1-1, 3.00)

Chase Anderson has been superb in his first two starts as a fill-in for the injured Matt Garza and has fared well against the Cubs in the past. Anderson has allowed just one run and six hits over 13 innings this season and recorded seven strikeouts over seven scoreless innings in a win at Toronto last time out. Anderson was 1-0 with a 2.35 ERA in three meetings against Chicago last season.

John Lackey had slow starts in each of his two outings but settled in and provided a solid performance both times. The veteran gave up a first-inning home run against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday before working out of a jam and getting through six innings without allowing another run, striking out 10. Lackey is 5-2 with a 3.28 ERA in 11 career starts versus the Brewers.

The Brewers are mashing the ball right now and Anderson is an underrated pitcher who had success against the Cubs last year. Right now, Chicago is not a team that I’m confident in laying a big number on.
