National League Central foes meet Monday night when the Milwaukee Brewers take on the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park.
Houston leads the tight NL Central, while Milwaukee sits in a tie for third, just one game back of the Astros.
Milwaukee is 2-4 on the road this season, while Houston is 5-2 at home.
The Astros just took two of three games from Arizona, while the Brewers just lost two of three at the Mets.
Houston won the season series with Milwaukee 10 games to five in 2005; the over/under went 5-10. The Brewers scored just 50 runs total in those 15 games. And the Astros have won seven of the last nine games vs. Milwaukee played at Minute Maid Park.
The Brewers are 2-4 so far on their current nine-game road trip.
Milwaukee’s Monday starter Dave Bush (1-1, 5.54 ERA) began the season with a good outing vs. Arizona, then got hit for seven runs in six innings vs. St. Louis his last time out.
Toronto went 8-16 in games Bush started in 2005, while the o/u went 12-10.
Bush has never started a game vs. Houston.
Houston’s Taylor Buchholz (0-1, 3.38 ERA) is slated to make his first Major League start Monday. He’s allowed two earned runs in 5 1/3 innings of relief work this season.
The Brewers are hitting .266 as a team this year but have scored just 48 runs. Brewer batters have combined for a 35/86 bases on balls to strikeout ratio.
The Astros are hitting .265 as a team, are averaging 5.2 runs per game and own a 39/68 BB/K ratio.
The Milwaukee bullpen has been solid all season, except for Sunday. Brewer relievers have allowed eight ER and 29 baserunners (hits + walks) in 31 2/3 IP so far, but Sunday vs. the Mets they gave up five ER in three IP to take the Brewers out of the game.
The Houston pen has given up 16 ER and 43 BR in 33 1/3 IP this season, but allowed six ER and 14 BR in nine IP over the weekend vs. Arizona.
Games played at Minute Maid Park this year are averaging 10.1 runs per game. But Minute Maid was a pitcher’s park last year, averaging just 7.8 RPG. In 2004, the park averaged 9.3 RPG.
The o/u is 5-7 in Brewer games this season, 7-5 in Astros games.
