The Boston College Eagles were one of the hottest teams coming down the stretch and will look to keep that momentum going when they take on the Iowa Hawkeyes in the 2017 Pinstripe Bowl on December 27th at Yankee Stadium. Boston College will be playing in their second straight bowl game under the helm of head coach Steve Addazio, who guided the Eagles to five wins in the last six regular season games, scoring at least 35 points in each victory. Freshman running back AJ Dillon was the catalyst with 1,432 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground in 2017. Addazio has a 1-2 bowl record including a loss in the Pinstripe Bowl in 2014 and is seeking his first eight-win campaign after finishing with seven victories in three of his first four seasons. The head coach on the other side of the field – Kirk Ferentz – has a lot more experience with 142 victories – one shy of matching Hayden Fry on Iowa’s all-time list. The Hawkeyes recorded a huge victory over then-No. 3 Ohio State with a 55-24 triumph at home November 4th, but followed that up with back-to-back losses to sink to the middle of the pack in the Big Ten West. Iowa also came within one play of upending Penn State at home early in the season. Ferentz is 6-8 in bowl games and has dropped five in a row.

Quarterbacking the Eagles will be senior Darius Wade, who took over after starter Anthony Brown suffered a season-ending injury November 11th against North Carolina State and had his best game (16-of-20, 248 yards) in a 42-14 victory at Syracuse in the regular season finale. Boston College accumulated 581 yards of total offense in the win over the Orange and enters bowl season ranked 24th in the nation in rushing with 224.2 yards per game. The defense has been getting stronger as the season progressed after allowing 34.25 in the first four games, it has lowered that to 16.6 over the last eight. The Eagles rank 32nd against the pass (199.3), but 101st in rush defense at 198.6 yards a game.

Iowa should have some success running the ball against Boston College with 1,000-yard rusher Akrum Wadley – a New Jersey native who has reached that mark in consecutive seasons and owns 34 career touchdowns (27 rushing). Sophomore quarterback Nathan Stanley has 25 touchdowns against just six interceptions on the season and his favorite target is the 5’11” Nick Easley (50 catches), but the red zone threat is tight end Noah Fant, who has 10 touchdowns as part of his 28 overall catches. The Hawkeyes feature a dynamic duo on defense in senior linebacker Josey Jewell and junior cornerback Josh Jackson, who are racking up the postseason awards. Jewell, a three-time captain, led the Big Ten in tackles with 123 while Jackson is tied with Boston College’s Lukas Denis and one other for the national lead with seven interceptions. Iowa has been outscored 75-19 in its last two bowl games with their last win coming in the 2010 Insight Bowl over Missouri.

NCAA FOOTBALL ODDS – SCORES – PUBLIC PLAYS

Iowa had a nice win this year over Ohio State and almost upset Penn State as well, but overall, this really isn’t a great team. Boston College on the other hand, is on a roll right now and should have the crowd in their favor. I can see the Eagles winning this by double-digits.

Pick: Boston College +2.5
