This week's ESPN Sunday Night game takes us to Detroit, Michigan as the Tigers host the Chicago White Sox. The Tigers have given themselves some breathing room in the American League Central by taking the first three games of this series. The now lead the White Sox by 3 games and the struggling Twins by 5. Detroit has been getting some great pitching recently. In their last 10 games, starters are posting a 2.60 ERA and the bullpen has been just as good with a 2.84 ERA. The only starter struggling is tonight's pitcher, Rick Porcello.
Porcello is 9-6 with a 4.40 ERA on the year, but has a 9.45 ERA in his last 3 starts. He'll be opposed by Clayton Richard. Richard is 3-3 with a 5.00 ERA on the season, but he to has been terrible of late. He pitched very well against Tampa last time out holding them to 4 hits in 8 innings, but his previous 5 starts were terrible. In his only outing this year against the Tigers, Richard didn't even make it out of the 4th inning in a 5-4 loss to the Tigers on June 8th.
This is a must win for the White Sox tonight. They don't want to get swept by the Tigers and be four games out of first. Chicago doesn't have a lot of things going for them heading into tonight including an 0-4 record in Game 4 of a series after a loss. I look for the Tigers to get to Richard early and often tonight and sweep the series.
