Can Yankees Steal 1st Placefrom Red Sox?

The NY Yankees are the hottest team in MLBsince the All-Star break. They’re 40-21 since the breakand are peaking at the right time going into the post season. The only thing that’s stopping the Yanks from taking topspot is the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees are currently 1.5 gamesback from 1st place with 6 games left. The Yankees remaininggames will be played on the road. They’ll have a 3 gamestint in Tampa Bay and a 3 games series in Baltimore. The Yankeesare getting it done in all aspects of the game. Their offenseexcels in all aspects of the game, but their defense will needto improve come playoff time. One questionable aspect of theYankees game may be their closers. Their closers have let leadafter lead slip away, but don’t forget that this is theYankees were talking about. They are the comeback kings. Theyhave the best record for comebacks in the ninth inning, whichthey recently proved against the BlueJays. Since both teamswill eventually end up playing each other, it should make foran exciting pennant race.

The Boston Red Sox are letting their arch nemesis, the Yankees, catch up to them. Since the all-star break the Sox have squandereda 14.5 game lead over the Yanks. The Red Sox have not won theAL East title since 1995. The Red Sox will play their remaining6 games at home against the A’s and the Twins. What’shappened to the Red Sox you ask? Well there are many thingsthat are hindering their chances. Big Pappi’s health isin jeopardy, his shoulder; knee, quadriceps and hamstring areall bothering him. Rookie pitching extraordinaire Hideki Okajima’sarm is questionable, pitcher Dice K has only two wins sinceJuly 29th and newly acquired reliever Eric Gagne has turnedout to be a flop. Too bad that the Yankees and Red Sox don’tplay each other before the end of the season, that would makefor an awesome series. Keep a close eye on the AL East.
